Reagan National Airport will remain closed until 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 after a passenger-filled American Airlines plane and a military helicopter collided, sending them into the Potomac River Wednesday night, according to the Federal Aviation Administration . FAA officials said a PSA Airlines Bombardier regional jet collided with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while approaching the airport's runway around 9 p.m. The crash halted takeoffs and landings at the D.C. area airport as officials issued a ground stop and closed the airport.The crash prompted the closure of Richmond Highway, which is near the airport.
7News' D.C. Reporter Phylicia Ashley caught up with travelers who were sheltering at a nearby CVS with their suitcases. One man said he witnessed the crash."Yeah, I've seen it when I was at the old place over there," said a man named Moody. "I've seen it when it happened, but I didn't think it was going to affect all this. I didn't know what was going on essentially.""It was just a quick flash," said Moody.
