The U-T and the San Diego History Center have teamed up for a From the Archives photograph feature that appears on B2 Tuesdays and Fridays. The photos, a significant number of which were taken by U-T photographers, can date back more than 100 years. Others might be from more recent times. The pictures capture pivotal points in the county's development, historic moments or just a slice of local life from another decade.
'The Mexican restaurant and the car wash are still there. When I was a little kid, I would get my school uniform there at the uniform shop. That was back in the 1960s when I went to St. Mary’s School.' The motherlode of information came from Luis Velez. In the picture, one of the guys wears a T-shirt with a distinctive logo reading 'City.' It's the logo for the City Car Club. A group of guys mainly from San Diego High founded the club in 1977, Velez said.
