The Rangers signed veteran right-hander Chris Martin to a one-year contract, the club announced on Monday night. Martin, 38, is an Arlington native with high-leverage experienceMartin spent his last two seasons with the Boston Red Sox and had a 3.45 ERA and a pair of saves in 44 1/3 innings last year largely as an eighth-inning setup man. His chase percentage (35.2%) and walk percentage (1.7%) both ranked in elite territory despite a slight decline in cutter and four-seam fastball velocity from the season prior. He spent time on the injured list twice — once, in June, due to anxiety, and again in July with right elbow inflammation — but has remained largely durable late into his career with four seasons of 40-plus innings since 2021. The Arlington High alum had a career year in 2023 when he yielded a 1.05 ERA in 55 games for the Red Sox and finished 12th in the American League Cy Young award voting.
