Which brings us to this week’s class on Rosterology. It’s the “next guy up” edition. The roster must be malleable during the season to account for injuries. The decision on how to replace Taveras for however long he might need on the IL probably comes down to Jankowski or Frazier. Frazier loses out here because he’s a right-handed hitter. If the Rangers need to open with Taveras on the IL, it makes most sense to form a center field platoon with Thompson hitting from the right. Jankowski is the more capable center fielder and also left-handed. It just fits too easily.
