ARLINGTON — Corey Seager landed on the injured list before the game began. Adolis García underwent more X-rays during it. Second baseman Josh Smith, first...

, allowed a season-high five runs on seven hits and two walks in three innings, his shortest start of the season.

The 28-year-old righthander let five straight Dodgers reach base to open the second inning — Max Muncy singled, JD Martinez walked, David Peralta doubled, Jason Heyward walked and James Outman singled — and plate three runs. All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman pulled an inside slider from Dunning into right field for the first of two home runs to lead off the third, then Keller graduate Max Muncy launched a middle-middle changeup two at bats later to make it 5-1.

Of the first seven batters Dunning faced, five worked three-ball counts to drive his pitch count into the 40s before he’d recorded a second-inning out. He elicited just two swings-and-misses on 79 pitches. The Dodgers made contact on every swing they took at an inside-the-strike-zone sinker, slider and changeup that Dunning threw.

All that’s to say: The Dodgers hit. A lot. Off of Glenn Otto, too. Texas’ long-relief man gave up five runs — one on a Freeman solo home run and three more on a J.D. Martinez home run — in his first inning of work out of the bullpen. Los Angeles scored three more runs offin the eighth inning, then three more off of Miller in the ninth. By the eighth and ninth innings, Nathaniel Lowe and Marcus Semien had been replaced defensively by Huff and Smith, respectively.

“I’ll be honest, personally, I don’t like [using position players as pitchers],” Bochy said. “But this was a need today, so we used him out there. I think he had a little fun with it, considering how the day was going, how the game was going.”Because the rest of the day? It’s one you’ve just got to forget about.Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien hit his 200th career home run in the first inning.
