The historic cycle firm's popular Chopper and Burner models dominated the UK's streets for decades, but it has now been given a first gazette notice by Companies House - giving it three months to get its affairs in order or face being forced shut.
While Companies House declined to comment on individual companies, if Raleigh is removed from the register of companies it will legally cease to exist - although the company can stop this by filing its results and paying a fine or objecting to the closing. The once world-leading company would have to pay a £1,500 fine as it was more than six months late in submitting its accounts, with Companies House explaining failing to file company accounts is a criminal offence.
The firm resubmitted plans for its base in the town to be turned into 125 homes in July last year, and has previously told Nottinghamshire Live it would relocate to a new site within Nottinghamshire in the future. The company labelled the facility, which it moved to in the early 2000s, "outdated and inflexible" in the face of changing customer needs in 2019.
