Rain and blustery winds will continue across Northeast Ohio into Friday. Here’s how the weather could affect trick-or-treating and high school football games.

Most of Northeast Ohio is expected to pick up another three-quarters of an inch to 2 inches of rainfall by early Friday, with the highest totals likely in the primary snowbelt east of Cleveland.CLEVELAND, Ohio — After a damp, blustery start to Thursday, Northeast Ohio faces a full day of raw fall weather, with rain and strong winds set to linger into Friday.

Temperatures will hold in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees through the afternoon as colder air filters in behind the storm. Winds off Lake Erie will strengthen through the day, gusting to 40 to 45 mph along the shoreline from Lorain County east to Pennsylvania.for Lake Erie from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, with waves building to 8 feet or higher and creating hazardous conditions for smaller crafts.As the main low lifts toward New England, widespread rain will gradually transition to lake-effect showers late Thursday night into Friday. The steadiest activity will focus on the primary snowbelt counties — Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula — where cooler northwest winds and lingering moisture off a still-warm Lake Erie will keep occasional bands of rain in place. Friday will remain cool and blustery, with highs in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees and wind gusts again topping out at 30 to 40 mph near the lake. Most inland areas will see a mix of clouds, brief sun and spotty showers.Friday evening across the region. Lows both nights will dip down into the mid 30s to mid 40s.The unsettled pattern will hang on into early next week, with lingering clouds and a few spotty showers possible Monday and Tuesday as another weak disturbance crosses the Great Lakes. A light west to northwest flow off Lake Erie could keep some lake-effect drizzle or isolated showers near the snowbelt, but most of the region will trend drier. Temperatures will stay seasonably cool to start the week, with highs in the lower to mid 50s and overnight lows again dipping into the upper 30s to mid 40s. Breezes will remain light to moderate, and any rain that does fall should be brief and light. By Tuesday night into Wednesday, high pressure is expected to build in from the west, finally bringing a return to quieter weather.
