A portion of Northeast Ohio is under a Level 1 out of 5 "marginal risk" for severe weather on May 21, 2025.CLEVELAND, Ohio — Expect a soggy Wednesday in Northeast Ohio ahead of a sharp cooldown that will see temperatures drop to 20 degrees below average on Thursday and Friday.
Scattered showers and a chance of thunderstorms are in store for Wednesday as a series of low pressure systems spin precipitation into the region like a weather pinwheel. There could be some clearing after widespread showers and rumbles of thunder moved through early Wednesday morning. Any peeks of sunshine behind that precipitation could fuel thunderstorm development in the afternoon and early evening. Showers and thunderstorms will push into the area this afternoon into the evening, bringing the potential for strong winds and large hail. In addition, heavy rainfall will accompany the strongest storms. Temperatures will start near 50 degrees — and then stay there all day.Adding insult to injury, gusty winds off the lake and rounds of showers will make for a blustery and not-so-pleasant day on Thursday. Some showers may linger into Saturday morning, but they’ll eventually give way to sunny skies, which will stick around through the holiday on Monday. There’s a slight chance of showers on Memorial Day, with the highest probability focused in the afternoon hours, forecasters said. While temperatures will still be below average, there will be some gradual warming over the holiday weekend. Highs will push into the upper 50s and low 60s on Saturday and into the mid 60s on Sunday.
