Rain ahead Thursday night in Chicago
CHICAGO — A Weather Alert is in effect overnight into early Friday morning for the most widespread, heaviest rainfall event the Chicago area has seen in a full month.A potent, compact low-pressure system is swinging into the area, spawning strong storms in Iowa late Thursday, and a large complex of rain with embedded thunderstorms in Illinois and Indiana overnight. Rain will be widespread and, at times, heavy locally.
A cold front clears the rain by midday Friday and sets the stage for a brisk autumn weekend. Sunshine rules the forecast into early next week as warm, gusty south winds return. A Wind Advisory may be needed Tuesday for gusts exceeding 45 miles per hour in some areas, ushering in record warmth with high temperatures over 80 degrees in Chicago. The next storm appears to bring colder air and a likelihood of rain on Halloween. Stay tuned for specific timing as your trick-or-treat plans approach.
