Queensland Labor has made a bold election promise as it looks to alleviate cost of living pressures by establishing a state-owned electricity retailer that it says will drive down power bills.
Queensland Premier Steven Miles has vowed to alleviate cost of living pressures with a new government-funded power retailer if Labor wins the upcoming election, in a plan the opposition has branded"desperate".
“It’s simple – people before profits. If my Labor team and I are elected this month, we will set up a new publicly-owned power retailer to provide stronger competition, greater choice and cheaper prices for households state-wide.” Premier Miles has vowed cost of living relief for Queenslanders through a new state-funded energy retailer. Labor's state-backed power retailer comes about two months after Mr Miles vowed to alleviate fuel costs by building or acquiring 12 petrol stations at a reported cost of about $36m. “The solution is state owned generators running at capacity, not more state owned retailers running off with your money,” Mr Crisafulli told the Agforce convention on Wednesday.
