With the Queensland poll six weeks away, two of the state's key candidates have been tapping into the socials.

A University of Canberra study found 72 per cent of Gen Zs avoid the news, and only 36 per cent are interested in political news. "Politics as being something sophisticated, hard to reach, suddenly has come to essentially the front lines," she said. An antidote to serious news, a way of getting young people involved in political discussions, or a threat to democracy — young people talk about memes.

To determine if the duo would make the shortlist, Mr Miles asked the boys a range of questions, including whether they referred to chicken parmesan as "parmi" or "parma". He said many feel "a lot of pressure to have to be constant content producers", especially in an effort to reach younger voters who want "more authentic and more accessible politicians"."I'm not exactly sure how memes or doing collaborations with online influencers really gets us any closer to the heart of what democracy needs and requires," Mr McTernan said.
