18-year-old Nigerian singer Qing Madi tells Teen Vogue about her debut album I Am the Blueprint, early success, and being a Kendrick Lamar superfan.

Hours before the release of her debut studio album, Qing Madi is all smiles, with a level of self-awareness and assurance that is rare for a teenager — but then again, Madi isn't your average 18-year-old. Nigeria n singer-songwriter and budding superstar Qing Madi, born Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, has been making waves globally and across the continent since her breakout single “See Finish” went viral in 2022.

When I was in high school, there were a lot of very genuine friendships because it's just people growing up together, coming to school, but when you are more successful than the average teenager, people start to see you weird and they want certain things from you — and if you cannot give it to them, you're a 'bad person.' So it's really weird. I don't know, man. I like the financial part of it. I cannot lie. I love the fact that I get to meet my heroes, my idols.
