A number of vehicles have been damaged during public disorder in the Galliagh area of Derry this evening.Footage on social media shows a road in the area being blocked by burning wood.It comes hours after material was removed by contractors from a bonfire site in the city over "public safety concerns".
"The department has taken the decision with care, informed by extensive engagement with community groups, residents and partner organisations." In a statement this evening, a PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are aware of sporadic public disorder in the Galliagh area of Derry/Londonderry this evening, Monday, August 7.
Just over ten years ago, a decision to remove bonfire materials from a site in Galliagh was followed by rioting.
