Netflix is turning its Christmas Day NFL football games into a pop culture moment, with a Mariah Carey opening and a halftime Beyoncé performance in Houston. The global streaming giant tapped comedian Bert Kreischer as its tailgate correspondent: He'll be in Pittsburgh for the game between the Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs.

David Mundee With Providence Christian cross country teams moving up to their highest AHSAA classification and adding several out of state meets, the challenges and challengers were greater this year for Millie Talmadge and Cole Smith.Running against Class 5A competition for the first time, Talmadge and Smith both placed third in their respective state meet. It was the fourth straight top three state finish for Talmadge and fourth top 10 finish and a career best for Smith.

“I am just really excited,” Talmadge said of receiving the top cross country award. “I think this is a great way to end my running career.”“It feels really good,” Smith said. “This year’s season was a little more special because it was senior year and also because of the competition we had this year against Scottsboro .”Talmadge’s three sub-19 times this season rank second , third and fourth all-time by a Wiregrass female runner.

Smith placed 10th in his freshman season before earning sixth-place finishes as a sophomore and a junior before taking third this year. A year after breaking the 19-minute mark in two races, including at the section postseason meet, the Eagles senior said one of her goals was to consistently smash past the time this season.

With a young team, Carter said few girls on the team could keep up with Talmadge in practice, forcing him to run her against some of the boys runners to give her better push. At meets, Talmadge didn’t have a teammate to run in tandem with her as she usually finished well over a minute over other PCS runners.

Though Carter believes Talmadge could easily run and be a success on the college level, the senior said she is ready to hang up in her running shoes – at least competitively. She plans to focus on school at Auburn. His success resulted in him signing to run cross country/track and field at the University of North Alabama.

“A lot of guys can falter their senior year with all the expectations, but I thought he held up to it very well,” Carter said.“It is good to be the best on the team, but it doesn’t mean as much unless you have all those guys around you to make you better every day,” Smith said. “I wouldn’t be as good as I am now if I was on a team by myself and didn’t have William or Hudson or Cash or Jacob training with me.
