Police have yet to find the gunman

Prosecutors have dropped their case against a woman who was charged with conspiracy to murder after a man was shot in Northampton last year. Violeta Florea had been due to go on trial last week, however, the Crown Prosecution Service, , has confirmed to NorthantsLive that the charge has been withdrawn.

Northamptonshire Police immediately opened an attempted murder investigation. Chief Inspector Nathan Murray confirmed the victim was a Romanian-speaking Moldovan man and that detectives were treating the shooting as an "isolated incident."Ms Florea, of Southampton Road, was charged with conspiracy to murder on Wednesday, October 19. She appeared before Northampton Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, October 25, where she was remanded into custody.

A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the current proceedings have been discontinued. This is still the subject of an active investigation so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage." Ms Florea was never formally accused of the shooting herself, and Northants Police has yet to find the actual gunman. A 30-year-old man was arrested in Kent in connection with the incident in October, but was released on police bail pending further enquiries.
