The Philadelphia Wings -- the city's professional box lacrosse team -- will cease operations after the end of the 2025-2026 season.
“This was not an easy conclusion to reach, and it is one we considered with great care,” a team spokesperson wrote. “Since the Wings’ re-establishment in 2017 and return to the turf in 2018, the team has proudly carried on Philadelphia’s rich lacrosse tradition at the highest level.
”The Wings were one of the four original teams in the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League, a professional box lacrosse league that launched in 1987. The league was renamed the Major Indoor Lacrosse League in 1989 and then the National Lacrosse League in 1998. The team relocated to Uncasville, Connecticut, in 2014 and was renamed the New England Black Wolves. Then in 2017, an NLL expansion franchise was given to Comcast Spectacor in Philadelphia. The new team took on the Philadelphia Wings name. The Wings played at the now-demolished Spectrum from 1987 through 1996 and the former Wells Fargo Center, now the Xfinity Mobile Arena.will take place at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia against the Las Vegas Desert Dogs on Saturday, April 11, 2026.will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, against the Vancouver Warriors at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
