Two city garages will offer free parking starting Saturday at 5 p.m. as crews prepare to deploy 22 plows and treat roads with more than 200 tons of salt.

Weather models may call for less, but Harrisburg officials say they are preparing for up to 30 inches of snow this weekend, with an army of snow plows and hundreds of tons of salt.No matter the exact amount, city officials say they are ready for the snow.

The public works department inspected and prepared the city’s 22 snow plows, four front-end loaders, four utility vehicles and other tractor-mounted snow plows. With cold temperatures expected to persist after the heavy snowfall, Harrisburg has stockpiled more than 200 tons of salt to treat roads and sidewalks. Additional salt is being delivered Saturday. “Our teams have prepared for every possible scenario,” Williams said. “While forecasts vary, the city is planning for the most severe conditions while hoping for a more moderate snowfall.”, on Locust Street and City Island, starting 5 p.m. Saturday. The garage parking will remain free until crews can safely remove the snow. The city, in advance, will share on social media the date and time when vehicles must be removed from the garages.
