K9 Hector led Portage County Sheriff deputies to the suspect's apartment door.
Published: Dec. 20, 2024 at 7:31 AM EST PORTAGE COUNTY , Ohio - A juvenile accused of stealing a Dodge Durango from Haaz Automall in Ravenna Township and then leading deputies on a chase, was tracked down by K9 Hector .On Dec. 19, a dealership employee told Portage County Sheriff deputies they noticed earlier in the day the Durango was missing.
The juvenile suspect, who also works at the dealership, then returned to the dealership in the Durango, argued with another employee and drove off.Deputies said the driver refused to stop, and drove erratically, running red lights and driving through yards. The chase was called off due to safety concerns, but the stolen Durango was located at a nearby apartment complex.
Deputies said that is when K9 Hector and his partner, Deputy Murray, with the Portage Aggressive Crime Enforcement Unit responded to the area. K9 Hector was let loose and after an approximate 200-yard track across grass and pavement, K9 Hector stopped at the suspect’s apartment door, said deputies.His name is not being released, due to his age.
