She's worried about policing. After nearly 17 years, Castro-Hughes said she was told days ago that she'd be out of a job when the new sheriff starts in January."To know that this is the end of it is heartbreaking," Castro-Hughes said. However, when Eyewitness News asked about the mental health division's future, he immediately responded, saying it was not going anywhere. An answer University of Houston Clearlake criminology professor Kimberly Dodson said makes sense.

"That has not been shown to be effective in the past because these individuals don't have degrees in psychology. They're not trained clinicians," Dodson explained.
