In a surprising bit of news, a popular 2016 horror movie is getting a sequel 10 years later, with a writer officially on board., which was directed by David F. Sandberg, will be getting a sequel. According to a new report from THR, the sequel will be written by Connor Osborn , with original producer Lawrence Grey, writer Eric Heisserer, and Sandberg all also attached to the project.
Ben Everard, Lotta Losten, and Atomic Monster, James Wan’s production company, are also attached to the film as producers. Currently, no director for the movie has been announced, although it seems unlikely Sandberg will be back in the chair for it. Lights Out was Sandberg’s directorial debut, based on a short horror film of the same name in 2013. Since then, he’s gone on to direct a number of high-profile films, including the Shazam! movies, as well as 2025’s Until Dawn adaptation. The original Lights Out follows the story of a woman who is trying to protect her young half-brother from a spirit from her family’s past. The spirit attacks people in the dark, and thus leads to some scary moments involving people turning on and off lights in the movie. The film starred Teresa Palmer, Gabriel Bateman, Alexander DiPersia, Billy Burke, and Maria Bello. At the time of its release, Lights Out was a surprise success for WB. The film received positive reviews, but also grossed $148 million at the global box office against a budget of just $4.9 million.Anthony Nash has been writing about games and the gaming industry for nearly a decade.
