The San Antonio City Council is set to hold a special session on Thursday to talk about a new proposed baseball stadium that could be in the works very soon. very soon.
It's a collaborative effort with Bexar County and right now, all the details are being worked out on this proposal. The meeting will discuss the building of a new minor league baseball stadium that could be constructed in the San Pedro Creek Culture Park area. The estimated cost of the stadium is $160 million and according to the ownership group, the stadium will "pay for itself" through increased tax revenue generated by the facility and its surrounding development.
The new stadium would accommodate up to 4,500 fans but could hold as many as 7,000. IT would be used for 70 San Antonio Missions games per year, college and high school tournaments, non-professional sporting events, festivals and other special events.Earlier this month, we spoke with Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai about how this could be paid to avoid tax dollars being used.
"I want minimal, if any, impact on homeowners' property taxes," Sakai said. "We expect the development in the identified San Pedro Creek area to support the bond payments for the stadium."
