A 9-year-old boy was accidentally shot by his 7-year-old brother in Cleveland, Ohio. Police are searching for the gun involved in the incident. The children's mother was not at home at the time of the shooting.
CLEVELAND , Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland police could not find the gun involved in the shooting of a 9-year-old boy. The boy’s mother said she does not have a gun. According to a Cleveland police report, when police arrived on the scene of the 16100 block of Lakeshore Blvd., a bystander had already taken the 9-year-old victim and his 7-year-old brother to the hospital. The report said police found blood on the scene leading up to a third floor apartment.
Police also found a bullet hole in the door of the apartment and a shell casing on the floor of the kitchen inside the apartment. Officers tracked down the mother of the victim, who said she was at the store during the shooting. The mother said a man was watching her kids while she was at the store, according to the police report. Officers spoke with the 7-year-old brother of the victim, who said he found a gun in his parents’ bedroom and he and his brother started playing with it. According to the report, the 7-year-old was playing with the gun, but his brother took the safety off.Cleveland police say the 9-year-old was shot in the upper back and taken to the hospital. After hearing the story, the mother of the children denied owning the gun and gave police permission to search her home, reports said
