A police pursuit in San Francisco early Monday morning resulted in a crash involving a police SUV and a white car, leading to the apprehension of two suspects and injuries to both officers and civilians.
A San Francisco police SUV collided with a white car and the corner of a building early Monday morning, resulting in damage to the cruiser. Officer Pauline Henderson of the San Francisco Police Department stated in an email that officers were conducting patrols in the area of 9th and Howard streets around 3:20 a.m. when they encountered a car that had evaded them the previous day, observed to be driving recklessly and committing multiple traffic violations.
Henderson explained that police attempted to apprehend the driver of the white car, but the individual disregarded their orders, prompting a pursuit. The driver of the white car crashed into a pole, and the police cruiser subsequently struck a building near San Bruno and Paul avenues, according to Henderson. The suspect exited the white car and fled on foot, but police managed to detain two individuals who were also transported to the hospital for medical assessment. Henderson confirmed that police did not disclose the identities of the suspects, and as of Monday morning, the District Attorney had not filed any charges. Two police officers were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities discovered a firearm at the scene. Following the passage of Measure E in 2024, San Francisco revised its policies regarding police pursuits, permitting officers to chase suspects for all felonies and violent misdemeanors. The revised policies eliminate a maximum speed limit for pursuits and stipulate that pursuits do not need to be terminated once the suspect is visible to a helicopter. Anyone with pertinent information is urged to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or submit a tip via text message to TIP 411, initiating the message with SFPD
