37-year-old Kendrale Lafayette Magwood was charged with one count of first degree Financial Exploitation of the Elderly and one count of Impersonating a Peace Officer.DOTHAN, Ala. - A Dothan man is facing charges after masterminding a scheme to exploit an elderly man out of his own money as part of a fake drug investigation.
According to Dothan Police, 37-year-old Kendrale Lafayette Magwood, while impersonating a police officer, convinced the unnamed victim to participate in this fake investigation for two months. The elderly man told police on Thursday, December 5, that Magwood convinced him to buy illegal narcotics, which turned out to be imitation drugs, from various sources with his own money. In exchange, the victim was made to believe that he would receive leniency on a previous criminal charge.
Using the information received from the victim, Dothan Police Narcotics investigators waited for Magwood to set up another fake operation, and used their own ruse to arrest Magwood without incident. Evidence in Magwood’s possession at the time of his arrest confirmed his having posed as a police officer.
Magwood was charged with one count of first degree Financial Exploitation of the Elderly and one count of Impersonating a Peace Officer. He is currently booked in the Houston County Jail with no bond.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
