Officers responded to reports of two men attempting to break into vehicles and found the victim.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was found to a gunshot wound to his leg and police believe he may have accidentally shot himself whil allegedly trying to steal some cars on the northwest side of town.responded to the 3700 Block of Newrock Drive near Vance Jackson Drive just before 2 a.m. Sunday for reports of a shooting in progress.

According to police, they received a call for two men who were trying to break into vehicles in the area. The call was upgraded to a shooting in progress as officers responded. When they got to the location, they found the two men in the street, and one had a gunshot wound to his leg. Police believe that he accidentally shot himself. He was taken to University Hospital in stable condition.

The second man was detained by officers while they continue their investigation. Police searched the area for any vehicles that may have been broken into.
