Four officers with the Austin Police Department are now on administrative duty following the deadly shooting.

6:12 PM CDT October 27, 2023According to APD, officers got a 911 call just before 8 p.m. at an apartment complex onWhen they arrived, they discovered an armed man, identified as 57-year-old Cristobal Ordonez Flores, who they believed was intoxicated,According to police, officers made callouts to Ordonez Flores in English and in Spanish. At some point, he walked out onto the balcony and aimed a weapon at police. APD fired at the man using less lethal rounds before the man went back inside.

APD says they called SWAT before making the decision to go inside the apartment because they believed the wife and child were in danger. Ordonez Flores opened fire on officers before APD returned fire. After he was shot, Ordonez Flores ignored commands from police and reached for his gun before he was shot again by officers. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.Meanwhile, the wife and child were rescued from the apartment and uninjured during the incident. APD Interim Chief Robin Henderson said no officers were hurt during the shooting and that everything was captured on body camera.

A total of four APD officers and one Texas DPS trooper were involved in the shooting. An administrative investigation by internal affairs is underway, while a second criminal investigation led by detectives, DPS and the Travis County District Attorney's Office begins.
