CLEVELAND, Ohio — A person in a Spider-Man costume on Saturday charged through the below-freezing temperatures, toward an icy Lake Erie.

He wasn’t alone. Shrieking participants in the annual Polar Plunge ran toward the lake at Edgewater Beach in Cleveland, some of them fully submerging their bodies in the chilly waters.. The 175 participants of the Polar Plunge raised about $80,000 for the organization, which provides year-round training and competitions in 18 different sports for about 22,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
