A PokeBall in the Pokopia Trailer.
Nintendo has announced a brand-new Pokémon game called Pokémon: Pokopia. This isn't like your typical Pokémon game, however, and is actually another spin-off title, akin to the Pokémon Legends series. This exciting new announcement came out of nowhere, preceded by a trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, even though fans have been clamoring for a new Pokémon game for quite some time.
Naturally, the announcement occurred during the September 12 Nintendo Direct. It was just one of several incredible announcements, following on from a brand-new Yoshi game, ports of old Super Mario titles, Switch 2 upgrades, and so much more. The packed Nintendo Direct had a lot of great reveals, but Pokopia will likely be the highlight for Pokémon fans, especially as it looks like no other Pokémon game before it. Pokémon: Pokopia Is Minecraft Meets Animal Crossing It Looks Incredibly Cozy Pokémon: Pokopia was sandwiched between several other incredible Nintendo Direct announcements, and only got a short trailer to showcase its cozy gameplay. It looks to be a mix between Minecraft and Animal Crossing, with players taking on the role of a Ditto in human form that tends to a patch of land, looking after the native Pokémon, building them homes, farming, and so much more. You learn new moves - such as Leafage, which lets you plant bushes for Pokémon to eat out of - from the various Pokémon you discover. As Ditto, you'll also be able to craft, terraform and so much more, not unlike the underrated Dragon Quest Builders. It looks like the perfect spin-off, a game that utilizes the best aspects of Pokémon within a whole new framework. It will undeniably be a huge hit for older and younger fans of the franchise. Pokémon: Pokopia Release Date & Platforms It Is Another Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive Pokémon: Pokopia will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. That may come as a blow to Nintendo Switch users, but a lot of the new games announced during the Direct were targeting Nintendo's new hardware. Additionally, Pokopia has a tentative release date of 2026, with no specific season or date being mentioned. There is a very good chance that we'll get an official release date for this upcoming Pokémon spin-off game in the near future. It seems that The Pokémon Company is intent on doing a lot more with the Pokémon franchise, and that is very exciting. With Pokémon Legends: Z-A releasing soon, Pokopia sometime next year, and the Gen 10 games soon too, fans have a lot to look forward to. While we may have to wait a while for this adorable, cozy Pokémon game, it is refreshing to know there's a lot of exciting Pokémon content on the horizon.
