Kota Kinabalu: The POIC Port at Lahad Datu is leveraging on its strategic location in the region to solicit wider cooperation with key ports to promote business growth.

POIC Lahad Datu Port, which began operation since 2013, lies in mid-way of the Lombok-Makassar shipping route which is the world’s second busiest shipping route after the Straits of Malacca. Daily Express Malaysia

Ships plying this route consist of many fuel and bulk carriers from the Middle East region through the Indian Ocean, and northwards through the Lombok-Makassar Straits on the southeast corner of Borneo Island. These ships will negotiate the Celebes Sea that separates Sabah’s Eastern seaboard from Indonesia’s Province of Celebes, before emerging into the South China Sea.
