Lachlan and Sarah Murdoch have inadvertently landed in the centre of tensions over Sydney’s new multimillion-dollar queer museum.

The Mardi Gras display was a pointed criticism by performers Paige Livingston and Brendan Toole of Qtopia’s board and management, which weeks earlier had accepted a million-dollar donation from the billionaire media magnates’ eponymous charitable foundation. Since opening its flagship museum doors in the old Darlinghurst Police Station a month ago, which is being leased to Qtopia by the NSW government, the museum claims it has had 2000 visitors.
Fisher said Qtopia – which features three performance theatres across its four venues – needed up to $1 million a year to run but would help “save lives”.Former Qtopia board member turned ambassador and trans advocate Katherine Wolfgramme said Sydney’s queer community owed Fisher a “debt of gratitude” because it was “his singular commitment that got it off the ground, when so many other attempts had failed”.
“The relationship with Jacqui North was not a constructive one and her services were not extended beyond her original contract which was paid out in full,” Fisher said.
