Pieper defeated Alamo Heights in four sets on Tuesday and is now one win away from clinching an outright district championship.
As tough as last Friday’s five-set loss against Boerne Champion was, the Pieper Warriors were eager for a reset against Alamo Heights on Tuesday. And after enduring a rough patch in the second set, the Warriors prevailed with a 25-15, 26-28, 25-12, 25-16 road victory that puts them one win away from clinching the outright District 26-5A championship.
“We were all young, so it was hard for us to get over losses, hard for us to get over long runs. Now, we have a better mentality going into each game.” Pieper has displayed that mental strength over the last week. The Warriors dropped a marathon match against Boerne Champion that went 18-16 in the fifth set. Pieper won the first set and trailed 2-1 heading into the fourth. “We’re learning to finish, especially in the early sets,” Monson said. “We don’t want to wait until the last two sets.
