The creators of"Spirit" dive into the making of the docuseries, sharing how they brought the story of Philly’s underdog high school cheer squad to life.‘Spirit,’ a docuseries on Peacock, showcases a Philadelphia high school cheer squad who won’t let anything or anyone stand in the way of their championship dreams.

NBC10 Sports Producer Rob Kuestner spoke with the Director and a show producer about why this story resonated with them. Philadelphia’s legendary grit and heart take center stage as a local high school cheer squad channels that unstoppable energy in the docuseries"Spirit." The four-part series follows"G-Dub," a co-ed cheer team from George Washington High School, as they compete at the district, state, and national levels and make history as the first cheer squad from the School District of Philadelphia to make it to the National Cheerleaders Association High School Nationals, the largest cheerleading competition in the world."We just thought it would be an interesting story to kind of be with them throughout the year and see them compete against teams with much bigger budgets, fancier equipment, newer outfits. And I just thought that it would be a story that would resonate with people in this city and throughout because it is a great underdog story," Howley explained to NBC10. Producer Kyra Knox, another proud Philadelphian, promises the series will strike a chord with audiences everywhere. "You can definitely experience that Philly, we don't back down energy. This is such a Philly story," said Knox."I really believe that the young adults, the kids, they are really going to tug on your heartstrings." The show's creation was made possible by the partnership of basketball superstar Steph Curry and his multimedia company, Unanimous Media.started on Comcast’s Black Experience on Xfinity,
