MANILA — The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has reached 50,063, following 2,103 additional cases reported on Friday.Active cases refer to patients who are still infected with COVID-19 and have not yet recovered.

Of the 2,103 cases, which is the 7th highest reported in a single day, 1,272 are from the National Capital Region, 291 are from Cebu province, 107 from Laguna, 83 from Rizal and 53 from Cavite. Since the easing of quarantine measures and the gradual opening up of the economy, new COVID-19 cases in NCR steadily increased, while Cebu island was identified as an emerging hotspot for COVID-19 cases. Region 4A or Calabarzon, which is near NCR, also saw an increase in cases.

Of the total, 1,029 are “fresh cases,” which refer to test results released within the last 3 days, and 1,074 are “late cases," or those released at least four days ago.During a televised briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire reported 144 additional recovered patients or a total of 24,502 recoveries.“Of the 15 deaths, 11 in July, 3 in June, 1 in April. Deaths were from Region 7 , Region 3 and Region 6 ,” the DOH said.

“Moreover, we have updated the health status of five cases previously reported as deaths but after final validation were all recovered.These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH said.
