A major winter storm is expected to bring the largest snowfall of the season to Philadelphia, with 3 inches of snow predicted Tuesday night into Wednesday. The storm is anticipated to bring heavy snowfall to Philadelphia, Delaware, and South Jersey.

Philadelphia is bracing for its biggest snowfall of the season, with 3 inches of snow expected to fall Tuesday night into early Wednesday. The National Weather Service predicts that the heaviest snowfall will occur between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., surpassing the previous season's highest snowfall of 2 inches recorded on January 19th.

This storm is anticipated to dump 4 to 6 inches of snow in Philadelphia, with Central and Southern Delaware, as well as much of South Jersey, potentially receiving even more, up to 6 inches. The snow is expected to fall at a rate of 1 inch per hour. While the exact timing of the snowfall remains uncertain, the National Weather Service anticipates it starting sometime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Philadelphia, Delaware, and South Jersey. Earlier in the day, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., snow is expected to begin in these regions. Following this initial snowfall, Philadelphia might experience a mix of rain and snow from a second storm, predicted to start late Wednesday afternoon or early evening. This wintry mix could transition to all rain overnight and possibly carry into Thursday morning, according to Dave Dombek, senior meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc. However, if cold air returns, the precipitation could switch back to snow. Temperatures are expected to rise into the 40s on Thursday, enough to melt some of the accumulated snow. Friday is anticipated to be sunny with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 30s, but a strong wind will bring wind chills down to the 20s
