Mickelson's appearance comes after he missed the league's season opener in Riyadh due to a shoulder injury, as he disclosed on his X (formerly Twitter) account. The six-time major champion's presence in Adelaide was first reported by Dylan Thomas, an Australia n professional golfer and teaching pro.
Thomas shared a video on his Instagram stories of Mickelson teeing off at the Grange Golf Club, the venue for the event. Mickelson boasts experience in the previous two editions of LIV Golf Adelaide, finishing 16th with a score of 12-under in 2023 and tying for 38th at 7-under in 2024.Mickelson's participation in LIV Golf has included 34 individual events, with his highest placing being a sixth at the 2024 LIV Golf Jeddah. His other top-10 finish since joining the breakaway league came at the 2023 LIV Golf Bedminster (1-under). Mickelson joined LIV Golf from its inaugural season in 2022, becoming one of the most prominent figures to sign with the league and reportedly receiving a $200 million signing bonus. LIV Golf Adelaide, held only twice (2023 and 2024), has quickly established itself as a premier event for the league due to the overwhelming support from Australian fans. In 2024 alone, 94,000 spectators flocked to the Grange Golf Club to witness the victory of the All-Aussies Rippers GC team, captained by local hero Cameron Smith.
