LIV Golf star Jon Rahm strongly criticized the Official World Golf Ranking ( OWGR ) during his pre-tournament press conference ahead of this week's Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Rahm expressed his disappointment with the OWGR 's decision to not grant LIV Golf ranking points, stating that it was unfair to the players who chose to join the Saudi-backed league.
He recalled that LIV had assured him and other players that they would pursue OWGR accreditation during their early discussions, but those promises ultimately remained unfulfilled. Rahm emphasized that not recognizing LIV Golf's legitimacy and awarding ranking points was detrimental to the players and the sport as a whole. He pointed out that LIV players like Louis Oosthuizen and Dustin Johnson, who have significantly dropped in the OWGR rankings, deserve a chance to regain their standing. Rahm also argued that LIV players should have a pathway to qualify for major championships, as excluding them based solely on their affiliation with LIV was unjust.He stressed the need for the OWGR to find a solution that ensures fairness for all players, regardless of their participation in different golf tours.
