Peter Roussel, Houston-born aide to three presidents, dies

against Reagan, Baker — Reagan’s chief of staff at the time — brought Roussel in as a deputy press secretary. His first assignment was one he treasured for years: Baker sent him to Arizona to be spokesman for Supreme Court nominee Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman appointed to the nation’s highest court.

He later would work in public relations, teach at Sam Houston State University, and opine about politics on ABC-13.Roussel was born Oct. 23, 1941, the son of two journalists who worked at the Houston Post. He was part of the inaugural kindergarten class at St. John’s School, and he faced tragedy early in life. When he was 3, his brother, Hubert, was killed in action in World War II after his B-29 was shot down over the Pacific Ocean.
