Alonso was removed from Wednesday’s game in the first inning when he was hit by a James Paxton 93-mph fastball while trying to check his swing. The team did not provide an initial update other than to confirm that he would undergo imaging, though manager Carlos Mendoza said x-rays were “normal.” The first baseman had appeared in each of the Mets’ first 55 games this season but had struggled for long stretches of it, slashing .231/.308/.453 with 12 home runs and 26 RBI.
