Mets superstar slugger Pete Alonso has left their Wednesday game with an injury as things go from bad to worse for New York.
New York Mets All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso has left Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first inning after getting hit by a pitch on the right hand.Alonso was hit by a 93.2 mph fastball from James Paxton. He went down on a knee in immediate pain, before getting back up and being checked by trainers. He then ended up leaving the game, and was replaced by Brett Baty as a pinch-runner.
The former second-round pick by the Mets in 2016 is slashing .231/.308/.453 with 12 home runs, 26 RBIs, and an OPS of .761.The three-time All-Star and 2019 Rookie of the Year winner is under his last year of team control, and is getting set for free agency at the end of this season. Alonso's camp reportedly rejected a seven-year, $158 million extension from the Mets last June, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, and will look to exceed that number this offseason.
