Donna Nelson 's family believe the West Australian grandmother was duped or forced into carrying drugs into Japan by a complex romance scam.She has told the Chiba District Court she didn't know the drugs were in her luggage and had been "deceived".A Perth grandmother and Indigenous community leader has told a Japanese court she was "deceived", after she was found with almost two kilograms of methamphetamine in her luggage at Narita airport, near Tokyo.
She has spent the past two years with no direct communication with her family, apart from one brief court appearance earlier this year.As she held back tears, she told the Chiba District Court: "I had no knowledge there was methamphetamine in the luggage.Ms Nelson's defence team have argued she was the victim of a love scam and was tricked into taking a bag containing methamphetamine.
"She didn't have any other intention other than that and that's what we need everyone to know and hear at court this week." The methamphetamine was found hidden in a false bottom of her suitcase, with an estimated street value of $728,000.
