An occupational therapist tells a Perth court that a severely malnourished girl, whose parents are on trial for allegedly starving her, was reluctant to answer personal questions and had 'reduced maturity and 'reduced problem solving'.

A Perth court has heard testimony from an occupational therapist who treated a severely malnourished teenager whose parents are on trial for allegedly starving her.

The girl was taken to the hospital in 2021 weighing barely more than 27 kilograms, and a series of medical professionals have given evidence that she was dangerously underweight for her age.Yesterday the court heard she could not peel a banana, and today Ms Warrington testified she had been asked to assess the girl because of her "delayed self-care skills".'Lack of exposure'

The girl said she had read fantasy books and this turned out to be a primary age book called Rainbow Fairies.Ms Warrington told the court the teenager was obviously good at ballet and playing piano, and there was a discrepancy between this and what she had not learned by the age of 17.) It was several days after the girl had been taken into the care of the child protection department and there were concerns the parents might have been hindering attempts to help her gain weight. The father's lawyer, Oliver Paxman, asked social worker Denise McNab if it was true she had grabbed the girl's arm at the time.Asked about the incident by the mother's lawyer, Michael Perella, she said she had put her hand on the girl's shoulder in reassurance.
