The dangerous invisibility of the United States’ construction workers
We are an area filled with Tyvek-wrapped homes, crane-dotted horizons and closed traffic lanes. That people have learned to look past those work sites is understandable.On Wednesday, six construction workers were killed on a Maryland highway after the driver of an Acura collided with another car and the force of the crash sent the Acura tumbling through a construction site.
The deaths drew national coverage — deservedly so. What happened was heartbreaking. But it was also not surprising to those who have been paying attention to the construction industry and the toll that goes unseen by much of the public.“Fatalities in work zones are all too common,” J.R.
