Manchester United signing a midfielder in the final weeks of the summer transfer window has to be the absolute priority. Earlier this week, Erik ten Hag took his tally of confirmed new signings to four, ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, when arrivals for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui were confirmed.

And perhaps the best option is Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte.
Though links to potential new arrivals have been strong, talk of exits have also taken place with Casemiro and Scott McTominay among those that may be moved on before the window closes. Towards the start of the summer, a departure for Casemiro appeared inevitable amid talk of a move to Saudi Arabia, however he impressed during pre-season and against Manchester City in the Community Shield.
