Needless to say, both marriages were full of abuse, control, and unhappiness. It wasn't until I went into therapy that I was informed that I'm allowed to make life choices for myself even if it makes others unhappy. Worrying about everyone else's happiness ensured I would never be happy myself because no one was looking out for my well-being.
I met a great guy fifteen years ago who finally got my jokes and shared my goals. He's straight. After him going through a hard time, he moved in on the sofa. Eventually, we pretty much only hung out with each other and both stopped dating.
