Disability benefit payments are tax-free and do not count towards the benefit cap.
It’s that time of year when more people start paying a bit more attention to the Consumer Price Index inflation rate, as the September figure is used as part of the Triple Lock measurement to determine the annual State Pension uprating for the following financial year. The July CPI was 6.8 per cent, down from 7.9 per cent in June, and its lowest rate since March 2022.
At present, people claiming any of the disability benefits mentioned above receive between £26.90 and £172.75 each week in additional financial support from the Department for Work and Pensions or Social Security Scotland. Attendance Allowance claimants would see their weekly payments increase to either £69.80 or £104.30 each week under a 2.5 per cent annual uprating. This is equivalent to £279.20 or £417.20 every four-week pay period.
