A big surf pounded the beach, as double red flags were flying.

Dangerous rip currents and a high surf warning were in effect, but not too many people were getting in the water. With the brutal winds, people are being extra cautious.Including Dorian Gregory who traveled from Louisiana.

“Super braving the winds. I walked outside and I seen the birds fighting with the wind. I’m as well fighting with the wind,” Gregory said. “The wind gusts are horrific here. But you still gotta love the beauty of the beach and everything that comes with it.”Tracy Schultheis and her family came all the way down from St. Louis.“We come every year down to the Gulf Coast but it’s the first time that we’ve stayed on Dauphin Island but we love it,” Schultheis said.

While some people on Dauphin Island may be used to battling the wind and water, Manzione says today wasn’t like most typical days. “I wouldn’t say this is exactly normal, it doesn’t usually blow like this down here,” Manzione said. “Maybe two or three days a month basically where it blows this hard. It’s a little windy down here but generally, winds are about 10 mph.
