In a now-deleted social media post from last Thursday, Lane wrote, “Rather drown with my guys than ever jump ship #weare” with emojis depicting a lion and a blue heart. A Maryland native, Lane appeared in all 29 games during his two seasons at Penn State with three starts in 2025. He came away with 44 tackles, one sack, four pass breakups and an interception.In a sizable 6-2, 206-pound frame, Lane at times showed star-caliber potential in the defensive secondary. He could have been a key piece in 2026 alongside fellow returner Vaboue Toure and Iowa State transfers Marcus Neal and Jamison Patton. Now, Penn State will look to fill that hole elsewhere, and Lane will look for a new home. The Nittany Lions already lost starters Zakee Wheatley and King Mack from the 2025 team. Notably, former PSU safeties coach Anthony Poindexter is now coaching alongside former PSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles at Tennessee.
