Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is expected to miss a significant amount of time after suffering an injury at the Olympics.
captain suffered a right leg injury days earlier against Czechia after taking back-to-back vicious hits from defenseman Radko Gudas against the boards that knocked him out of the game. Many were hopeful Crosby would skate against the USA after sitting out the semifinals against Finland.
However, he missed both games and watched Canada claim silver from the bench. And with the NHL season set to resume with the Winter Olympics now over, the Penguins, who currently sit in second place in the Metropolitan Division, learned they will be without Crosby for an extended period of time. “Sidney Crosby is expected to miss at least four weeks with a lower-body injury coming out of the Olympics, according to the #pens,” The Athletic’sGiven Crosby’s four-week timeline, he’ll be out until at least March 25, meaning he’ll miss — at a minimum — Pittsburgh’s next 15 games. His injury isn’t expected to be season-ending, and his recovery timeline is on par with what well-known sports doctor David Chao suspected after watching video of Crosby’s injury. “By limited video, apparent low grade left knee MCL sprain. His @Olympics is likely done, but not his @NHL season. No surgery, anticipate return sometime in March for @penguins,” Through 56 games, Crosby leads the Penguins in both goals and points . He’s also tied for 17th in the NHL in goals and 22nd in points.
