The collision happened about 6:45 p.m. on Mission Avenue near Francesca Drive, roughly a quarter-mile east of Old Grove Road, Oceanside police said in a news release. Police said the man was struck by a black Chevrolet Tahoe that had been headed east on Mission.
Despite efforts to save him, he died at the scene. Police said the man was an Oceanside resident, but did not release his name, citing the need to notify his family of his death. The SUV driver remained at the site and cooperated with investigators, police said.
