The sheriff's office was walking south on the south track just east of the State Route 14 overpass near Franklin Street in Lyons around 4:45 p.m. Monday when the incident happened. Amtrak operators reported that the individual was walking southbound in an area of the railroad tracks not designated for pedestrian crossing when the train approached.
